About my accent: I would like to say that my accent really differs from the ones' speaking a really aweful scandinavian accent. It does though sound a little British and sometimes a little American. In Sweden we officially learn british English, because it's the "original" English, but since most movies come to us from the U.S. only with subtitles we get more influenced of that kind of vocabulary. Your suggestion is really great and I hope that my boss really conciders it  Hi Marios!

I'm visiting Stockholm for the first time in July and having lived in other European countries I always like to be able to use simple phrases when visiting. BTW - your accent is definitely Scandinavian - which makes it sound a little British however you use an American vocabulary - regardless, it is excellent. One suggestion I'd make would be an audible glossary so that all the vocab is collected in like a reference audio file or a lesson on the basics of pronunciation to assist us in picking up new words from written materials or when we are travelling in Sweden. Keep up the good work! Tackar! M Hej Joakim,

He has such a lively and engaging voice, and it just makes me want to learn more and more. Anyways, I have a question concerning the use of the phrase . I've noticed that, like English, Swedish doesn't always pronounce what is on the page. I have been studying the language for a few months and my ears are starting to get sort of wrapped around the language. Well, though I can say it when it is broken up, I cannot make out how you pronounce it normal conversation. It is hard for me to figure out which parts are pronounced, so... if you could let me know that would be great, if not thank you for your time anyways. But I really do want to stress that I enjoy these particular podcasts and do, in fact, plan on subscribing when I have the financial means. Tack så mycket. It does seem that as you say the textbooks are not brilliant. The one I have seems OK but I think a lot of the time it suggests phrases that are outdated. I can still pick up certain elements from it though so I will see how this develops. There si quite a good website which runs through all the basic words of the language on three pages. That might be a good one to keep tabs on. At the same time I will try and get all of your lessons down to a tee, and then try and work the two together somehow and try and attempt a basic conversation in Swedish! Here's hoping! They are really terrible but I guess it's not their fault, it's the language. Swedish is not very consequent, many old expressions and text book swedish is a little different from "real" swedish unfortunately. The best thing to do is to get into the spoken swedish as quick as possible. I can now only recommend my lessons, since I am trying to make them so authentic as possible. You should also try to squeeze as much spoken swedish from your friend as possible and let him decide what's weird and not. As for the R, I've noticed that we have several different Rs so if you roll too much it will sound as weird as your american. The good news: it's almost like the american one but lighter and a little closer to the teeth. However, when we want to be extra clear and emphasize something by exaggerating we will roll it extremely. So my tip is to learn the rolling part and then listen alot to swedish material to hear how it really sounds and to make the rs light. In southern Sweden the R is totally different. It's in the throat. I really hope you are going to become fluent enough to have a conversation with your friend! That's what it's all about. Hi Steve!

Firstly I have a Swedish friend which is cool! I went to Stockholm last month to see the city and I loved it and I did try some of the first few lessons out when I was there. I loved learning the language and I just decided to carry it on. I am now working with different materials to gain a decent amount of spoken and written skills. I have read some bad things about the Swedish books (and there aren't many) but it's just something to have to give examples of full conversations. I use this with a verb reference, and the SP phrases for spoken things. At the moment I am up to about lesson 20 so far, and picking up how to say things reasonably well. The rolled "r" is always fun for English speakers. Difficult but fun to try! I'm reading up on the difference in word orders/tenses to learn how to make my own sentences. My initial goal is to speak Swedish pretty well, enough to have a conversation in Swedish with my friend, and then if I can become fluent then that would be amazing! I'm just searching for the correct method to move my Swedish forward......... Tack Joakim! I am learning Swedish for a few reasons. Firstly I have a Swedish friend which is cool! At least if you add the word "igen" which means "again". "Trevligt att träffas" is the real "school swedish" so to speak when meeting someone. I wouldn't say that I have used this ever but if I would, I would use "Trevligt" and not "Roligt". I have never heard this in a text book. Sorry to say this but mostly Swedish text books are really bad. To clarify "roligt" means "funny/fun" and "trevligt" means "nice" I hope this helped and that you can continue learning with me! Thanks for all the lessons, I am using them in conjunction with other materials to learn Swedish. Breaking everything down really does work and helps me remember things more easily. I have a feeling that certain phrases in my book may be a little outdated. In this lesson you say "Trevligt att träffas" whereas my book says Roligt att träffas." Is trevligt more modern, or does it really matter which you say? They both seem to mean pleasent/great to meet you. Hej Joakim! It's been a pleasure to teach you all some Swedish and I really truly hope my 60 lessons have been helpful for you. Unfortunaly Sweden lost the EM (Europa mästerskapen) i fotboll, but we'll come again for VM! The world championship. I had a great midsummer though in Germany with some german friends. Wanted to teach them a little about the swedish tradition and I set up a nice Smörgåsbord for them. I hope you all had a nice midsommar! Keep listening and asking. I will be here to support you all in learning Swedish and answer your questions. Hey Rob, thank you very much. Nice that you like my lessons! Don't worry, there will be 60 lessons. Don't rely on the timestamp on this site  This lesson is not so old as it might look like. The scripts are finished and I just have to record them to get them out to my listeners. This is a lot of work and since I also have other things to do I'm a little behind schedule. You can await lessons thhroug #30 in the near future. Was your question if I teach Swedish in Stockholm? The answer is no. Unfortunately I don't. Thanks for your feedback! Joakim Hello there Rob! I recently moved to Stockholm where I join my wife starting my new life as a Viking! I found your podcast right before I moved on March 7th on itunes and was blown away by how easy you are to listen to and how helpful and fun the podcasts and the pdfs are. For me it's important to see the words and read them as I am hearing them. Anyway. . I just purchased the membership to get all the podcasts but I am a little concerned since the last post you made was January. The Survival Phrases site says there's 60 lessons do we get more to look forward too? My next question is do teach Swedish here in Stockholm? Vi syns! Rob Joakim,

Although the different dialects in Swedish are practically dead there are still different accents. Due to television, radio and our writing language all swedes can understand eachother without any complications. Some dialects remains though, as those in the region of Dalarna where you still have words that can't be understood everywhere. Thanks for listening to my show! Hope that this will help you! On the same note about your accent, where in Sweden are you from? I ask because I have friends from Stockholm, Uppsala, Karlskrona, and northern Sweden, and they all speak a little bit differently. Hej, hej! P.S.
