I also think you use onegaishimasu when you get or want something physical. More like "may I have it" and kudasai ismore like please. I have done some of Pimsleur's Japanese and they teach very very politeness. Of coarse, this site gives a more detailed description http://japanese.about.com/blqow15.htm I think Onegai shimasu is more polite. I have a Japanese ballet dancer living with my family, and she's a huge help, but the more I can learn the better! I've been listening to the first lesson over and over again, it's really good and very helpful. I'm looking forward to finally going to Japan (although that probably won't be for many years). Thanks heaps. Rosie. Hi Sachiko,

This is a great way of learning! Although Sachiko Nakagome, the teacher or the person who says these phrases, goes a bit quit fast and doesn't allow me to actually get the syllables so i have to write it all down, it's still very good. She did tell me why she goes fast, she's from Osaka (n Japan of course) and she has lived/ lives in new York so.......Anyways this is great i can't wait for my next lesson!:grin::mrgreen: I simply love this, i will not be going to Japan any time soon, but I want to learn as much as possible. At first, I was afraid the content would be too simple for my business trip to Japan, but as it turns out, all were really handy and quite relevant. I esp wow'ed them when I asked how to connect to the internet, as they probably expected nothing more out of me than "hi, what is your name?". In addition, what I picked up from the podcasts provided a great base from which I learned even more. I must say, I came home a lot more fluent than I expected. Locals complimented me many times on my pronunciation, saying it was much better than most visitors, "very close" to native. I happily fwd that compliment towards your work. I hope you are able to continue the series. This sure beats going to a local college and filling my head with non-useful phrases like, "how is your car business today?" Some humble suggestions for future lessons: checking into a hotel, checking into the flight (i.e. security questions, luggage check in, etc - got a little lost there), a more detailed restaurant lesson, and socializing. While I eventually figured it out, it would have been nice to have known these things prior. Feel free to quote this to your boss if needed. Stellar work! Hello Sachiko,

That should enable you to scroll to the lessons you are after. If that doesn't work, try using a podcast reciever such as Juice, to download lessons 1 - 50 Tony,

My brother has been living in Japan for 14 years and being an infrequent visitor with very limited Japanese, having a cell phone in hand before going is a great way to make sure that you can get from the airport to a familiar face with the minimum of hastle. For my upcoming trip I tried to rent a phone and found several places which will ship it to you before you fly (so you don't even have to negotiate finding the booth in the airport), but was let down by phonerentalusa.com. I would advise people who are looking into this service to 1, not used the before mentioned site, and secondly make sure that you have a tracking number in hand well before it is too late to order another one from a different company. Thanks, Dale Sachiko-san,

On my last vacation trip to Japan, I stayed at Toyoko Inn which is a western-style business hotel that is pretty inexpensive (especially for two). The rooms are very small, but you get free breakfast and in the lobby you get free internet, telephone, and coin laundry. If you are on a budget, it is a decent option. Their website is in English which is very helpful, until I get enough of your lessons. Steven from St. Louis Sachiko-san,

We really appreciate it! And good question! Japanese cell phone emails are usually not their phone numbers. It's something like (alphabet & number)@ezweb.ne.jp the latter half (ezweb.ne.jp) is the address of the cell phone service provider. It might be softbank.ne.jp People get very creative with their email addresses. Mine is still on the pre-set mode, so it's just a bunch of irrational numbers! I should change it soon! I hope this answers your question! Sachiko Hi Sindy,

Thanks always for your comments! We really appreciate it!
And good question!

Japanese cell phone emails are usually not their phone numbers.
It’s something like (alphabet & number)@ezweb.ne.jp
the latter half (ezweb.ne.jp) is the address of the cell phone service provider.
It might be softbank.ne.jp

People get very creative with their email addresses.
Mine is still on the pre-set mode, so it’s just a bunch of irrational numbers!
I should change it soon! I hope this answers your question!

Sachiko

Also the PDF's are amazing help. Sugoi! I have a lot of lessons to catch up on to get into speed with everyone else. Arigato! After doing some of the Newbie lessons on Jpod, I am in a bit of a rush as my exams are steadily approaching. But I saw a link to here and listened to this lesson and fell in love! This is perfect for the quick learning I could use before school. I am now a premium member and can't wait to here all the future lessons. Again, arigato gozaimasu.
